Is your house shrinking?

Today’s new build houses have a living room that is on average a quite unbelievable 32% smaller than an equivalent home built back in the 1970’s with master bedrooms being around 9% smaller.

The average number of bedrooms has also shrunk, coming in now at just under three with the 1980’s being the most generous decade, offering 3.6 bedrooms per build.

New build houses in the UK are also the smallest in Europe, with an average floor area of just 76 sq metres compared with 137 sq metres in Denmark, who provide Europe’s most spacious new homes.
